O's keeper out for season

Leyton Orient goalkeeper Lee Butcher will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The 23-year-old was carried off in the closing stages of the 3-1 defeat to Scunthorpe on Saturday after an awkward fall, and subsequent scans have since revealed damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Butcher has played 26 matches for the O's this season but will now undergo surgery on his injury which will keep him out for at least six months.

Speaking to the club's official website, manager Russell Slade said: "Lee's injury couldn't have come at a worse time for him as he was in spectacular form - the best form of his life.

"It wasn't even a challenge that has led to the injury - it's a freak accident and it's so unfortunate.

"His character is good and I know he will work exceptionally hard to return to full fitness and we wish him well in his recovery."
